Anyone old enough to remember when Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka, & Sound of Music were television events?
Yes, technology is great and so is having nearly unlimited access to every movie ever made. But do you remember when the Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and The Sound of Music were once-a-year TV events? They all seemed just a little bit better back when it was something to look forward to. Did you watch them as a family back then? You know, making popcorn – in a pot, not the microwave – and sitting in the family room or den or whatever as a family and enjoying it? Not all progress is good, IMO.
Yes I remember these classic movies and when they were a television event. We all gathered around the television (black and white) we even had a few relatives come over and watch. Mom made popcorn in a pot with a little oil at the bottom and a lid over top and would stand there and shake the pot back on forth on the burner. The kids had to sit on the floor and the adults would be on the furniture. Those were the fun days when families did things together. Now a days they go in all directions and everything is DVDs, Videos or Video Games and the shows now a days are really stupid. thank goodness for TV Land.

Wicked (2003 Original Broadway Cast) $9.98 One of the most common complaints about musicals is that the books are flimsy pretexts from which to hang numbers. Wicked runs into the opposite problem: it has a great plot, but too often the songs just get in the way. Based on Gregory Maguire’s novel of the same name, Wicked tells us what happened between Glinda the Good and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, before Dorothy showed up in Oz. … |

Songbird $10.41 Songbird cherry-picks tracks from the three locally released albums of Eva Cassidy, whose hauntingly beautiful vocals went virtually unheard outside her native Washington, D.C., during her short 33 years with us.
