Get your degree in Music Education. I have a degree in elementary education and want a degree in music education. Thing is this: music classes aren’t offered at night. A music certificate will qualify you to teach music K-12 in most of the United States, but an elementary certificate will qualify you to teach elementary school (varies by state) in the regular classroom but you cannot teach music. If you want to go back and get certified to be a regular elementary school teacher, you can do it at night while you work and be getting your MAT (Masters of Arts in Teaching) which will also qualify you for a pay raise. But as I said before, it is hard to find a program to go back and get a music degree at night.
