I just finished watching the Temptations Story… I’ve always been a fan of old school music?

David Ruffin has always been on of my favorite old school entertainers. Do you think the Temptations should have been David Ruffin and the Temptations? David Ruffin had a powerful voice, he seems to be an Icon in death, but could never obtain that status when he was alive. Diane Ross had that billing with the Supremes, so why not David Ruffin?

The Temptations were a group and not just centered around David Ruffin…..several different singers took the lead on their songs although most of the big hits did have Ruffin as the lead. The Supremes on the other hand were always built around Ross and the other group members could have been mannequins for all the difference they made. And, something else to remember is that Barry Gordy who ran Motown Records was the one who made that decision. He was a virtual dictator who ran a hitmaking machine and gave the artist’s little say in things.

Ruffin’s fervor and control are intact here, even when his producer…

The Temptations have long had the reputation for being able to out-sing, out-dress, and out-dance any vocal group in sight. Their earliest hits featured either the grits-and-gravy stylings of David Ruffin (“My Girl,” “I Wish It Would Rain”) or the gossamer falsetto of Eddie Kendricks (“The Way You Do the Things You Do,” “You’re My Everything”). Replacing Ruffin with Dennis Edwards, the group went …
